Accenture will be the principal partner of the National Design Award of Latvia
One of the leading IT companies in Latvia and globally, Accenture has become the principal partner of the National Design Award of Latvia (NDAL) for the next three years. The company will not only provide financial support to ensure that the National Design Award of Latvia is organised successfully, but will also present its own special awards in two nominations. Entries can be submitted for the National Design Award of Latvia until 1 February this year at: www.dizainabalva.lv.
The National Design Award of Latvia will take place for the first time in 2017. It is being organised by design studio H2E in collaboration with the Latvian Ministry of Culture, the Latvian National Museum of Art and the Art Academy of Latvia. Till now, several awards have been presented within the community of Latvian creative industries, but the innovations that the National Design Award of Latvia will introduce are in its judging procedures, which are different from established practice, as well as in provided access to the designers’ works after the award is presented. This year and for the next three years, the award will be supported by the IT company Accenture, which particularly wants to highlight designers in the digital environment and accomplishments in this field in Latvia.
“Every day, we increasingly use various digital services and capabilities. The role of designers is more important than ever. We want to take down the barriers and draw the public’s attention to design in the digital environment. Visual layout and user friendliness are the main parameters that determine whether capabilities in the digital environment will be exploited. You can’t put design into a box; creativity and inspiration play an enormous role in creating world-class products, services and works of art. Accenture wants to send out a powerful message that Latvia needs designers and UX specialists that work in the digital environment to convey Latvia’s name to the world at large,” explains Accenture Latvia Lead Maksims Jegorovs.
Accenture will present two special awards: the Young Designer of the Year and the Digital Business of the Year. Overall, all the entries submitted will be evaluated from the perspective of the digital environment. The entries will be judged by an highly qualified jury comprised of the Accenture team, in consultation with foreign business partners specializing in the field of digital design and UX.
An international team of design industry professionals will participate in judging the entries submitted for the National Design Award of Latvia. Based on their experience and knowledge, through a process of joint discussions, jury members from Latvia and abroad will judge the entries according to equal criteria, without dividing them into individual categories. The jury will be joined in its final assessment of the submitted entries by this year’s NDAL special guest – co-founder and Editor of the world’s leading design magazine Frame, Robert Thiemann.
In the list of members of jury for the 1st National Design Award of Latvia are: Hringur Hafsteinsson, Creative Director of the award-winning agency Gagarin, Stéphane Vial, Associate Professor of Design and Doctoral Advisor, as well as Research Leader at the University of Nîmes’ design innovation project PROJEKT Lab; Vēsma Kontere McQuillan, architect and Professor at the Westerdals Oslo Westerdals Oslo School of Arts, Communication and Technology; Inese Baranovska, Head of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design; Rihards Funts, designer, curator and founder of the International Design Summer School MAD, as well as Barbara Ābele, Associate Professor at the Art Academy of Latvia.
